Abstract: Based on the social identity theory, a model of the relationships among workplace negative gossips, group identity,
employees' proactive work and their conventionality has been constructed and verified with empirical evidence. Results of the analyses
show that workplace negative gossips have negative impacts on the employees' proactive work, that their group identities serves
completely as a medium between negative gossips and proactive work, and that employees' conventionality will moderate the influence
of negative gossips on their group identities, which means the more conventional an employee is, the less his/her group identity will be
influenced by the negative gossips at the workplace.
